- noun
- A region of injured tissue or skin in which blood capillaries have been ruptured; a bruise.
- Example: Bruising Bruising, or more correctly, 'contusion', is bleeding by damaged blood vessels beneath the surface of the skin.

- Concerned with the diagnosis of illness or other problems.
- Example: The sweat test is diagnostic of cystic fibrosis.

- Activity requiring physical effort, carried out to sustain or improve health and fitness.
- Example: A yoga class would involve gentle stretching exercises as well as meditations for relaxation.

- noun
- A fracture is a break, usually in a bone. If the broken bone punctures the skin, it is called an open or compound fracture. Fractures commonly happen because of car accidents, falls, or sports injuries. Other causes are low bone density and osteoporosis, which cause weakening of the bones.

- Muscle strain, muscle pull, or even a muscle tear refers to damage to a muscle or its attaching tendons. You can put undue pressure on muscles during the course of normal daily activities, with sudden heavy lifting, during sports, or while performing work tasks.
- Example: Moderate muscle spasm may result as a reflex response to both ligamentous capsular injuries and muscle injuries.

- Physical disability is a limitation on a person's physical functioning, mobility, dexterity or stamina. ... A person may be born with a physical disability or acquire it later in life through accident, injury, illness or side effects of medical treatment.
- Example: OT's usually work in either hospitals or social services, and can work with a very wide range of people including children, teenagers, adults, and elderly: in mental health, leaning disability, physical disability or rehabilitation settings.

- A Physiotherapy Assistant's role is hands-on and highly patient-based. Physiotherapy Assistants work with Physiotherapists and are required to be responsible for providing patient care and encouraging patients to complete specific treatment plans related to injury, illness or disability-related physical issues.

- A forecast of the likely course of a disease or ailment.
- Example: It is possible to manage the majority of episodes of acute respiratory failure with mechanical ventilation administered with non-invasive techniques, however the use of endotracheal intubation usually results in a poor prognosis i.e. one year survival rate is usually lower than 40%.

- A record of information about a person's health. A personal medical history may include information about allergies, illnesses, surgeries, immunizations, and results of physical exams and tests. It may also include information about medicines taken and health habits, such as diet and exercise.
- Example: Your family medical history, sometimes called a medical family tree, is a record of illnesses and medical conditions affecting your family members.
